How to front post double crochet
Front post double crochet (FPdc) · Front post treble (FPtr) in UK patterns
A front post double crochet is worked around the post of the stitch below instead of into its top. The hook goes in from the front, round the back of the post and out to the front again, which pushes the new stitch forward into a raised ridge.

Yarn over (2 loops on hook).
Insert the hook from front to back round the post of the next stitch, and out to the front again.
Yarn over and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook).
Yarn over and draw through 2 loops (2 loops on hook).
Yarn over and draw through the last 2 loops (1 loop on hook).
