How to back post double crochet

Back post double crochet (BPdc) · Back post treble (BPtr) in UK patterns

A back post double crochet is worked around the post of the stitch below from behind. The hook goes in from the back, round the front of the post and out to the back again, so the new stitch sits behind the fabric and makes a valley on the side facing you.

  1. Back post double crochet, step 1, in 3D yarn on a hook
Yarn over (2 loops on hook).
  2. Back post double crochet, step 2, in 3D yarn on a hook

  3. Back post double crochet, step 3, in 3D yarn on a hook
Yarn over and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook).
  4. Back post double crochet, step 4, in 3D yarn on a hook
Yarn over and draw through 2 loops (2 loops on hook).
  5. Back post double crochet, step 5, in 3D yarn on a hook
Yarn over and draw through the last 2 loops (1 loop on hook).
