Crochet stitches, step by step
How to single crochet
Single crochet (sc) · Double crochet (dc) in UK patterns
Single crochet is the short, sturdy stitch at the heart of crochet. It makes a dense, firm fabric, which is why amigurumi toys are almost always worked in it.

Insert the hook into the next stitch, under both loops.
Yarn over and draw up a loop (2 loops on hook).
Yarn over and draw through both loops on the hook (1 loop on hook).
One single crochet made.
Rendered from Krowshea's 3D yarn, not photographed or drawn by hand, and shown for a right-handed crocheter.
